Dr. Ian Alverson, Pharm. D. was selected for the 2018 Preceptor of the Year award from South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions in Brookings, S.D. Alverson is a 2012 graduate from the pharmacy program at SDSU and is currently employed as a pharmacist at Madison Regional Health System in Madison, S.D. He is also a Board of Pharmacy Specialties board certified pharmacotherapy specialist.

Alverson has served as preceptor for the past 5 years and has supervised over 30 pharmacy students in a clinical setting at various levels. Preceptors provide practical experience and training for students typically in their fourth year of pharmacy school, preparing them for their future careers.

“Students have commented on how much Ian has helped them learn about all aspects of pharmacy,” said Tamara Miller, CEO of Madison Regional Health System. “They expressed that not only does he have a broad knowledge of pharmacy that he was more than willing to share with them, but Ian made them feel welcomed and comfortable in their role. That feeling helps enrich the students’ experiences since they are ease when asking questions and formulating their own answers. We are very proud of Ian receiving this award, it is well deserved!”

Alverson received his award at SDSU on Friday, May 4.
