New Programs in Therapy

SASTM

The Therapy Department completed certification training in SASTM (Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization). This course educated the therapy staff on using special tools that quickly locate and effectively break down scar tissue and adhesions due to acute and chronic issues. These tools also reach the deeper tissue layer aiding the therapist to find and locate restrictions quicker and easier than soft tissue massage. The tools promote blood flow and help improve overall healing, mobility and decrease muscle tightness. This can be used for such diagnosis as trigger points, plantar fasciitis, impingement, and areas of chronic limitation of mobility.

Lymphedema Evaluation & Management

Karla Vandenbosch is a physical therapist who is part of the Madison Regional Health System Rehabilitation Team with more than 20 years of experience. She is certified in lymphedema evaluation and management. Lymphedema is a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system, which normally returns interstitial fluid to the bloodstream. If you have problems with lymphedema or swelling of your arms or legs, ask your primary care physician if this technique would be helpful for you.
