Fast and effective results are provided to local physicians by the ability to transmit digital images directly to a radiologist for rapid interpretation if necessary. Our Radiology Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and is under the medical direction of a board-certified Radiologist.

For your convenience, Madison Regional Health System can perform radiological services even if they were ordered by a different provider. Please call 605-256-6551 to schedule.

“I was there for a CT scan. The staff was very polite and courteous. The CT technician was awesome. She made me feel at ease. All in all a good experience.” -R.T.

Radiological Services include:

  • 3D mammography or breast tomosynthesis uses a moving x-ray source and a digital detector to create a three-dimensional image of the breast. Several low-dose images from different angles around the breast are used to create a 3D picture. 3D is currently considered standard of care for breast imaging. A number of studies have shown that 3D mammograms decrease the false negative rate and increase the rate of cancer detection.
  • Conventional Radiography (X-Rays)  is the use of x-rays to visualize the internal structures of a patient. X – rays of the skeletal system along with the chest or abdominal cavities may be obtained to help make a diagnosis.
  • Digital Fluoroscopy uses radiation to produce real time images. It is the study of moving body structures. It is often used to image the gastrointestinal tract. These tests require the administration of barium to better visualize the anatomy. These exams are performed under the direct supervision of the radiologist.
  • Computed Tomography (CT) uses a combination of computers and X-ray images taken from different angles around your body to create cross-sectional (slices) images of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. A CT scan is often a fast way diagnose disease or injury, it can also be used to organize medical, surgical or radiation treatment. Some exams may require the use of oral or IV contrast as directed by your physician.
  • DEXA Scans use low energy x-rays to measure bone density. Bone mineral density testing is used to evaluate and diagnose osteoporosis, a disease that causes weakening of the bones. This offers a fast, non-invasive way to measure the bone density of the spine, hips and occasionally the forearm. This is a screening tool that will aid your physician in determining your fracture risk and the appropriate treatment.
  • Ultrasound technology uses sound waves to visualize inside the body. This includes obstetrical, gynecological, abdominal cardiac and vascular imaging. With OB imaging we have the ability to connect directly to a Perinatologist to provide expertise data to your local physician. Our state-of-the art equipment has the ability to provide 3-D and 4-D imaging. Ultrasound is often used in conjunction with other imaging modalities to offer a diagnosis.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field along with radio waves and a computer to produce images of internal organs and structures in a safe and non-invasive way. This type of imaging can be done for the head, chest, blood vessels, bones, joints, abdomen and spine to diagnose disease or injury. Our MRI machine has a wide bore design that allows for more space and comfort than a traditional MRI scanner.
